School Lockdown Procedures

PARTIAL LOCKDOWN (2ND FLOOR)

1.             Notify Security via the two-way radio.

2.           Alex (Executive Director) and Gregory (Director of Operations & Security) in coordination with Heather (Montessori Principal) or Anna (Assistant Principal) and the LPD Security Officer will determine if we should do a full or partial lockdown. They will announce, “We are shutting down the 2nd Floor for maintenance” on the phone paging system (go to any phone in the building, lift the handset and hit the INTERCOM soft key to make a building wide announcement).

3.           Teachers will lock the doors to the classrooms and follow their emergency procedures.

4.           Visitor should not remain on the 2nd floor (only students, teachers and staff). After visitors have been evacuated from the 2nd floor, Security will lock the stairwell doors and then shut off power to the elevator using the main elevator circuit breaker. They will also put sign by the elevator and stairwell saying the 2nd floor is closed. The sign is located in the piano room on the 1st floor.

FULL LOCKDOWN (ENTIRE BUILDING)

1.        Notify Security via the two-way radio.

2.       Alex (Executive Director) and Gregory (Director of Operations & Security), in coordination with Heather (Montessori Principal) or Anna (Assistant Principal) and the LPD Security Officer will determine if we should do a full or partial lockdown. They will announce a Full Lockdown on the phone paging system (go to any phone in the building, lift the handset and hit the INTERCOM soft key to make a building wide announcement).

3.       Security will lock all outside doors.

4.       Teachers will lock the doors to the classrooms and follow their emergency procedures.

5.       The Museum staff will make every effort to evacuate the building of visitors, but it may be safer for visitors and staff to stay in the Museum while the disturbance is going on. If Museum staff determines visitors are not a threat, Security will have them wait in the Auditorium.

6.       Visitors should not remain on the 2nd floor (only students, teachers and staff). After visitors have been evacuated from the 2nd floor, Security will lock the stairwell doors and then shut off power to the elevator using the main elevator circuit breaker.

7.       Any staff in Administration/Education should shut and lock the doors to the offices.

Should the Museum go on lockdown, Gregory will notify Lakeland Police Department. On weekends, Security will make the decision to lockdown.
